Ramblings of a disturbed, egotist female.

I refused to watch “The Break-up” when my brother got the movie home on his laptop. That was around 4 years ago, when the movie had just released. I found it rather irritating and useless. The couple would just keep fighting over trivial matters which seemed rather immature to me.

Finally, towards the end of 2009, I watched it. And I loved it.

I loved it because it showed the eccentricities of a man and a woman, and how they clash. It showed the pretences disappear as things got worse.

But you know what I loved most about the movie? The fact that they never get back together.

If a relationship does not work out, there’s always a very good reason behind it. One should not try to salvage it or revive it later, just because one feels the need for someone to lean on. That’s stupidity. Better is a life alone than a life with someone who you chose only because you didn’t want to be left all alone.

Love cannot be forced. You cannot say, “Let’s become good friends again” and become good friends just like that. Friendship needs to be nurtured. The trust needs to be built. And what’s the point saying, “Let’s forget the past and start afresh” when you know that things can never be the same again? Trust once broken cannot be rebuilt. One should not even attempt it. And if trust means so much to someone, they should not have broken it in the first place.

We are responsible for what happens in our lives. The sooner we realise it and accept it, the better. Life becomes a lot simpler.
